Publish to your store

What this section does

Publishing takes the version of a page you have saved and makes it visible to shoppers. How a page goes live depends on its page type.

Publish a Regular page

Regular pages publish directly to your storefront. No theme editor step is needed.

Open the page in the editor.
Select Save so the version you want is current.
Select Publish.
When publishing finishes, select View page to open the live page.

The page appears on your storefront at /pages/ followed by its handle, and it is listed with your other pages in Online Store → Pages in Shopify admin.

Republishing updates the same page in place, so the URL does not change and existing links keep working.

Note: The handle is generated from the page title the first time you publish. Renaming the page afterwards does not move the live URL.

Publish other page types

Home, Product, Collection, Blog post, and Password pages map to templates in your theme, so they are placed through the Shopify theme editor.

Open the page in the editor and select Publish. Your content is saved and you are given a link into the theme editor.
In the theme editor, open the template for that page type.
Select Add section and choose Bran Page from the Apps group.
Paste the page’s Page ID into the section’s Page ID field. You can find it in the app under Pages.
Position the section where you want it in the template.
Save the theme.

The section then renders your Bran page content within that theme template.

Note: Because these page types use your theme’s templates, your theme header, footer, and any other sections in that template still render around the Bran section.

Link your page from your store

A published page is live but not yet discoverable. To bring shoppers to it:

Add it to a menu in Online Store → Navigation in Shopify admin.
Link to it from other pages, banners, or campaigns.
Use it as a landing page destination in your marketing.

After you publish

Edits you make afterwards are saved as a draft version until you publish again.
Design System changes reach published pages automatically, without republishing.
Components bound to live store data, such as product listings and blog posts, stay current as your catalog and blog change.

Tips

Set the page title before the first publish so the URL reads well.
Preview at Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile before publishing. Publishing is easy to redo, but shoppers may see the page immediately.
After publishing, open the live URL in a private browsing window to see the page exactly as a shopper does.
If your store is password-protected, remember that visitors need the password to see the live page.

FAQs

The Publish button is disabled.

There are no unsaved changes to publish, or a publish is already running. Make a change, or wait for the current publish to finish.

Publishing said the page type is not supported for direct publishing.

Only Regular pages publish straight to the storefront. Other page types are placed through the theme editor, as described above.

My published page does not show my latest edits.

Saving and publishing are separate. Open the page and select Publish again.

The page is live but looks unstyled for a moment when it loads.

Styles load with the page. If this persists, check the Design System is saved and activated, and reload with a clear cache.

Can I unpublish a page?

Remove or unpublish the corresponding page from Online Store → Pages in Shopify admin, or remove the Bran Page section from the template for theme-placed page types. Your content stays safe in the app.
